Cork Open Center Etiquette

Proper etiquette is expected before, during and after class. Students are expected to be on the mat at least five minutes before the teacher gets on the mat. During class, students shall maintain a spirit of harmony, respect, and camaraderie.

Everyone is expected to follow the teacher's techniques as demonstrated. Even though the teacher allows ample demonstration of individuality, students attention should focus on the way the teacher demonstrates techniques. Every student should try to apply technique as close as it was demonstrated by the teacher.

Surrendering one's ego and following the technique just as shown is a must for a true budo student.

You do not have to be strong to begin practicing Aikido or T'ai Chi Ch'uan. If you are interested in practicing Aikido or Tai Chi, please stop in to observe or attend classes. Dedicated practice with physical, mental and spiritual perseverance will make you stronger. It is not magic; but a magical transformation is always a possibility. Classes are offered throughout the entire year. Everybody is welcome to visit us and train.

Note: Aikido classes offered may include training in Saotome Sensei's Weapons System (bokken suburi, 15 kumitachi/paired practice, jo movements, six kumijo/paired practice, tantodori), as well as Taoist Yoga (Round Chi Kung) as taught by Taoist Master Don Ahn.

Note: There will be NO classes on bank holidays and other official holidays unless otherwise noted. Children's and morning classes may be added later.

By Bus: Located directly on No. 5 Bus route (CIT - UCC - City Center) to and from City Center every 15 minutes. For additional bus routes near by please contact bus service providers.

By Car: Ideally located off Dennehys Cross in the Bishopstown / Wilton area. 2.5 km drive to and from City Center with free parking outside the Cork Open Centre. Dennehys Cross is the intersection where Wilton Road (N71) / Victoria Cross Road and Model Farm Road (R608) / College/Magazine Road meet.
